Northbridge: Introduction Northbridge is a wealthy suburb of Sydney, in New South Wales. It is the place where the historic stone bridge is located. Lying on Sydney's lower North Shore, Northbridge is surrounded by the suburbs of Castlecrag, Willoughby and Cammeray. Northbridge is famous for its large waterfront houses that look out over Sailors Bay and Middle Harbour. Northbridge: History Prior to the arrival of the Europeans, Northbridge was inhabited by an aboriginal tribe known as the Cammerra. The tribe was known to be constituted by very powerful men. At present not a single member of the tribe survives in the suburb. Northbridge's name comes from the fact that it was the first suburb in the north of a newly constructed stone suspension bridge from Cammeray in 1892. Northbridge did not receive its present name until 1977. Northbridge: Tourist Attraction The suspension bridge which links Northbridge and Cammerra is admired as an engineering marvel. The bridge has many ornately designed towers that resemble a medieval castle.
