The Townsville International Airport serves the city of Townsville as well as Thuringowa in Queensland, Australia. Everyday a large number of airlines land at this airport bringing tourists from all across the world to this beautiful city. The Townsville International Airport is located in the Garbutt suburb, because of which it is also known as Garbutt Airport. This airport has been operating since 1939. During the Second World War, the Royal Australian Air Force set up its base in this airport. The airport original served as a landing ground for Boeing 727 and DC-9. In 1981, the modern international airport was inaugurated with the landing of the Qantas Boeing 747. The international terminal of the airport is located on the southern side, while the domestic terminal is located on the northern side. There are four aerobridges, one international and three domestic. Its is well connected to some of the major cities of the world, which include Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns, New Zealand, Fiji, Auckland, Tokyo, Hong Kong and other places. Currently, the Townsville International Airport does not handle direct international flights. Connecting flights are however offered by Pacific Blue from Christ Church in New Zealand and other places.
