Bahrain Grand Prix in Bahrain

Baharin Grand prix in Bahrain was considered to be the latest addition to the list of Bahrain Festivals and Events when the first ever Formula One Grand prix was held here in the entire Middle East. Bahrain beat the likes of Egypt, Lebanon and UAE to bag the Grand Prix Formula One racing event. The inaugural race took off at the Bahrain International Circuit on April 4, 2004 and the race was dubbed as the "Best Organized Grand Prix" by the FIA. Bahrain Grand Prix, since its start in 2004, has been the third race in the calendar of the Formula One Championship. Pushing off the first Formula One championship-the Australian Grand Prix to the back position, the year 2006 Formula One championship kicked off with the Bahrain Grand Prix in Bahrain.

The Bahrain Grand Prix in Bahrain is a widely anticipated event in the country's sporting calendar. Crowds from all parts of this island country and from all countries across Middle East Asia gather in huge numbers to witness the best drivers going head to head for the glory. The race continues for three days and the Bahrainis treat it like a three day long festival. The racing track was built by the celebrated Formula One track designer Hermann Tilke. The design of the racing track was criticized on the ground that it was too simplistic a design. However this track has proved successful in mitigating accidents. The very first race was won by the world famous German driver Michael Schumacher of the Ferrari team.

The total circuit length of Bahrain Grand Prix in Bahrain is almost five and a half kilometers. Divided into 57 full laps; the distance that each driver has to cover equals approximately three hundred and eight kilometers. Winner of 2006 Bahrain Grand Prix was Fernando Alonso of the Renault team. Fernando Alonso is also credited with the maximum number of wins at this circuit.
