The Bahrain Grand Prix in Bahrain is a widely anticipated event in the country's sporting calendar. Crowds from all parts of this island country and from all countries across Middle East Asia gather in huge numbers to witness the best drivers going head to head for the glory. The race continues for three days and the Bahrainis treat it like a three day long festival. The racing track was built by the celebrated Formula One track designer Hermann Tilke. The design of the racing track was criticized on the ground that it was too simplistic a design. However this track has proved successful in mitigating accidents. The very first race was won by the world famous German driver Michael Schumacher of the Ferrari team.
The total circuit length of Bahrain Grand Prix in Bahrain is almost five and a half kilometers. Divided into 57 full laps; the distance that each driver has to cover equals approximately three hundred and eight kilometers. Winner of 2006 Bahrain Grand Prix was Fernando Alonso of the Renault team. Fernando Alonso is also credited with the maximum number of wins at this circuit.
