The telephone system of Bahrain is based on the most modern technologies of telecommunications. The household telephone connections are driven by the up to date fiber-optic integrated services. According to figures made available in the year 2003, there are about 185,800 main line telephone connections spread across the country. The country has caught up with the others in the use of cellular phones as well. The mobile phone network operates on the digital network. In the year 2003, there were about 443,100 mobile phone lines that made Bahrain communication all the more dynamic. With each passing day, the use of cell phones is only going to attain more momentum.
Bahrain communications has also attained considerable growth in television broadcast. In the year 1997, there were 4 television broadcast stations in the country. The state operated television channels broadcast their programs mainly in Arabic language.
Radio is also one of the pillars of Bahrain communications. The country owns a couple of AM stations and three FM stations. There were no shortwave radio stations as in the year 1998.
Use of the Internet has gained in popularity. As per statistics in 2003, there are 1,334 Internet hosts and 195,700 Internet users across the country. All these have influenced the Bahrain Tourism industry in one way or the other. Moreover, Bahrain Economy and Politics have also experienced the positive impact of Bahrain communications.
