Safety and security are the Airport's highest priority. In full cooperation with the government, the airlines and business partners, the authorities work to ensure passenger safety. Gulf Air provides 55 per cent of the services, operating 378 weekly international and regional services. British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Cathay Pacific, along with 36 other airlines operate 293 weekly services to 54 destinations. Bahrain International Airport, on Muharraq Island, is about six kilometers from the capital, Manama. It is 15 minutes from the center of the city. Bahrain time is three hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
There are many ATMs, banks and bureau de change offices, cafes, restaurants and bars, book and gift shops, post office, tourist office, communications center, and an Islamic prayer room. There is also the award winning Bahrain Duty Free shopping complex to shop at. There are also good facilities for the disabled. Short / long duration parking facilities are available in front of the terminal. The cashier counters are at the exits, open 24 hours and allow for cash payment only. A free shuttle bus service operates between the terminal and the longer duration car parks. There is also a choice of taxis and rental cars. Of the Bahrain airports, the Bahrain International Airport has truly international class features.
The airport also has three discrete lounges for premium passengers. At these lounges, check-ins are comfortable, relaxing experiences. As is wont in airports around the world, the Bahrain airports are not found wanting.
