Bahrain: Do's and Dont's

Bahrain is a beautiful archipelago of 33 small islands, floating as emeralds in the turquoise blue sea. Bahrain is a country that has its majority of the inhabitants as Muslims. The country has certain rules and regulations, that are to be followed, both by the inhabitants and also by the visitors who come from outside. The people here are quite stringent about their dressing etiquettes and expect the same from the tourists. So, it is advisable that when people are traveling to this part of the world, they try and follow the various Bahrain Do's and Dont's and have respect for the same.

Amongst the various Bahrain Do's and Dont's, the dress code of the people here, forms a very important aspect. Since it is a Muslim country, people dress conservatively here. The women wear loose clothes that cover their hair, arms and legs. They are not allowed to wear shoes inside the mosque. The Do's and Dont's of Bahrain do not allow men to be in shorts. Sleeveless tops are a strictly forbidden. Clean clothing and a mild good perfume is preferred. Men are also not allowed with shoes inside the mosque, and one is expected to talk very softly, once inside the holy shrine.

The Bahrain Do's and Dont's have few more rules for dress. In the traditional areas, like the souks, villages, market places and other such areas, skirts are allowed for women. Long skirts or trousers are preferable, but skirts that are not below the knee level can also be worn. However, modern western outfits like spaghetti tops or tops with deep necklines are not permitted. Women can choose from the half sleeves to the full sleeve tops. Men can go for less formal wears here, but one is advised not to wear very good clothes here, as they can get spoilt by the dirt in these places.

In the shopping malls, the dressing codes become less stringent, however, women are advised to keep it to the conservative styles only. People usually dress up the most in the malls. In the restaurants gaudy dresses can be worn and the conservative dress rules apply from restaurant to restaurant. However, people are not supposed to drink in public places.
