Boracay Language

English is one of the official languages of Philippines. Communication in Boracay is not a problem as the people in Boracay can speak English quite fluently. Their accent is quite similar to the US and depends upon the educational background of the speaker. English is most commonly used.

Aklanon the local Language of Boracay does not have much difference with Tagalog spoken in Manila. There is a slight difference in only the grammar and vocabulary of the language. Linguist considers these local languages as Vernacular Language and not a dialect. Summer Institute of Linguistics has made some valuable contribution towards the research on languages of the cultural minorities in Philippines.

Aklanon has some resemblance with the Spanish language. Philippines was a colony of the Spanish for a considerably long period of time. Spanish had left its mark on the language of the place. Thus Aklanon has some words originating from Spanish.

Boracay is a multiracial and mutli linguist island with settlers from most of the major countries of Europe that include Geramny, France, Switzerland, Bavaria, Belgium, Spain, England and Australia. Thus the local language spoken by the people is a fusion of these languages.

The national language of Philippines is the Philippino as per the Constituion of the country. It reads “As it evolves, it shall be further developed and enriched on the basis of existing Filipino or other languages.” The constitution also says “the regional languages are the auxiliary official languages in the regions and shall serve as auxiliary media of instruction therein.” And “Spanish and Arabic shall be promoted on a voluntary and optional basis.”

Boracay Language is a combination of all the local languages with English as a communicative language with the tourists.
