Phnom Penh which means Hill (Phnom) of lady Penh was founded in 1372. It is the capital of Cambodia. Designed by renowned architect Vann Molyvann, the Chaktomuk Conference Hall
in Phnom Penh was originally opened in 1961 as La Salle de Conférence Chaktomuk.
It was earmarked for redevelopment as a restaurant in 1991 but was brought back
as a theater in 1994 following the devastating fire at the National Theatre.
The Chaktomuk Conference Hall in Phnom Penh was completely refurbished in 2000
with the mission of providing international-standard facilities for business
conferences. It is still used a theater venue for special and official programs
organized directly by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.
The main use of the Chaktomuk Conference Hall at Phnom Penh at present is for conferences, lectures and occasional performing arts activities.
