Built somewhere between 1406 and 1420 during the reign of the Ming dynasty, the Forbidden City, Beijing is not to be missed visiting during Sightseeing in Beijing. Ideally located in the heart of the Beijing City, Forbidden City is also known as the 'Purple Forbidden City' and 'Imperial Palace Museum'. In all the Forbidden City comprises of 9,000 elegant rooms and 70 beautiful structures. This former residence of around 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasty is spread over an area of 720,000 sq. meters.
The architecture of the Forbidden City speaks for itself. Rectangular in shape, this palace is known as the world's largest palace complex. Surrounded by a deep moat and walled by a ten meter high wall are its 9,999 buildings. The Forbidden City is divided in to two sections, namely, the southern section and the northern section. Sources say that the construction of the Forbidden City, Beijing began in 1407 and it took 14 years to complete it. The result of all this was the architectural wonder made by hundreds of artisans who labored day in and out. Perhaps this is the reason that till date it is considered as one of the famous landmarks of Beijing.
Counted among the best-preserved palaces in the world, the Imperial Palace is worth visiting during Sightseeing in Beijing. While exploring the Forbidden City, don't get confuse to see the extreme usage of color yellow everywhere. Yellow is the symbol of royal family and is therefore dominating the decorations of the Imperial Palace in Beijing. All roofs except that of the royal library have yellow roofs, even the bricks on the ground are of yellow color.
