One of the major tourist attractions in Beijing, Mao Ze Dong Mausoleum was constructed in the center of the city after Mao's death. The construction of this huge mausoleum and memorial hall was completed in 1977 under the supervision of Hua Guofeng. The Chairman Mao's Mausoleum is situated behind the monument to the Heroes of the People right in the center of Tiananmen Square.

The memorial hall is about 260 meters long, 220 meters wide and 33.5 meters high. The remains of the Chairman Mao Ze Dong in a crystal coffin are on display. The Chairman Mao's Mausoleum has five parts - the Memorial Hall, the North Hall, the South Hall, the Viewing Hall and the Courtyard.

For the construction of Mao Ze Dong Mausoleum Beijing, material was brought from all over the country. Granite was brought from Sichuan Province, pine rocks from Jiangxi, color pebbles from Nanjing, porcelain plates from Guangdong Province, milky quartz the Kunlun Mountains, rock samples from Mount Everest, and many more materials. This mausoleum and memorial hall is a major highlight that attracts every visitor.

On your Beijing tour, you can visit the mausoleum and the memorial hall in Tiananmen Square in between 8:30-11:30 am and 2:00-4:00 pm. The mausoleum remains close on Monday. Visit the Viewing Hall to catch up a glimpse of the former chairman here. Also see a beautiful white marble statue of Chairman Mao in the North Hall. The upper floor of the halls houses the exhibits that tell about the great work of the former chairman Mao Ze Dong.
