Among the major tourist attractions of Beijing is the Monument to the People's Heroes. Visiting this Beijing monument is truly a place to explore. The construction of the monument began in 1952 and was completed in 1958. Located at the Tiananmen Square, it is the largest monument in the country. The Monument to the People's Heroes was constructed in memory of those people who died for the independence of China.

The foundation stone was laid on September 30, 1949, by Mao Zedong and Zhu De. Monument to the People's Heroes Beijing is a ten-storied obelisk. The height of the monument ranges from 121 feet to 125 feet. Extending to an area of 32,000 sq feet, it contains around 17,000 pieces of granite and marble. An inscription on the front of the monument reads "Eternal glory to the people's heroes!"
