Chengdu International Panda Festival

Giant Panda the cuddly creature clad in its famous black and white attire is the main attraction of Chengdu International Panda Festival. The density of the giant Panda population is highest in woody mountains of northwest Situan. Established with the help of the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Forestry, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda situated in the Situan province achieved remarkable success in conserving Giant Panda regarded as China's " National Treasure." Nobody can resist the charm of this rare and loveable animal and so World Wild Fund from the time of its birth in 1961 made Giant Panda the poster symbol for bio diversity and eco conservation.
In order to promote widespread awareness about the urgency and importance of preserving Giant Panda as well as to boost international economic exchange and cultural cooperation, Chengdu International Panda Festival was held twice receiving wide interest from scientists and common people alike.

Chengdu Giant Panda Reserve Base

The Giant Panda Reserve Base situated just outside the city of Chengdu was opened in 1987 to conduct research and conservation program to secure the survival of this rare species and to save them from being extinct. Housing this shy and solitary animals, the Base was rewarded the honorary title of "Global Top 500" by the UNEP in the year of 1995. This achievement set the right mood and reason for observing Chengdu International Panda Festival. This festival is also aimed at upholding the ancient history and culture of Chengdu.
