China - Xian - Beijing - Guangzhou - Chengdu - Dalian - Shenzhen - Shanghai - Hangzhou
Danjing Mountain situated at a distance of 50 Km. from Chengdu is famous for organizing the annual Tianpeng Peony Fair, displaying almost 250 kinds of peony the most revered and favorite flower of China. These beautiful blossoms with sweet fragrance can be found in full bloom in spring. Tianpeng Peony Fair held in the month of April attracts a large number of tourists each year.

History of Tianpeng Peony Fair

The practice of nurturing and cultivating peonies in multiple colors and sizes has a long history in China. The medical book, carved on bamboo pieces, also sang the praise of peony prescribing it as a remedy for blood stasis. The charming shapes and gorgeous colors of peonies captured the fancies of poets, kings and philosophers down the ages. Gradually planting peonies and appreciating the flowers became a popular fashion. Peony cultivation techniques were greatly developed and flower arranging evolved as a grand occasion in the royal palace of Tang. When the peonies were in bloom in the Emperor's garden, "tents were arranged and shops were established. Musical pipes and strings could be heard inside. Town ladies stopped their cooking to visit the flowers". Tianpeng Peony Fair is the modernized version of this long established practice dated back to more than 1000years.

Tianpeng Peony Fair at Present

Pengzhou lying in the northern part of Chengdu was called Tianpeng in the ancient times. Danjing Mountain in Pengzhou began to grow peony in the Tang Dynasty and now it is the largest peony growing center in west China. In 1985, peony was selected as the city flower of Peng zhou City and the right platform to exhibit its precious possession. During this Tianpeng Peony Fair Eight peony samples, Chinese herbaceous peony garden, crape myrtle garden and yellow azalea garden, spread over a total area of some 6.6 hectares remain open to the public. Pengdu City holds a very big Peony Fair every year on Tomb Sweeping Festival to promote local art and culture. Apart from the Peony Exhibition and Danjing Hill visiting, the festival includes some other recreational activities with distinctive national features, such as exchanging discussing the technologies, selling some special local products and so on.
