Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area

Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area are often referred to as the 'World Wonder' and 'Fairy Land on Earth'. The area is known for its beautiful lakes, snow clad mountains, valleys and virgin forests. Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area were included in the UNESCO world heritage list in 1992.

The Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area are located in Songpan County, in the northwest part of Sichuan Province. The area encompasses the Huanglong and Muni Valley. The major scenery comprises of 3.6 kilometer which includes snow-clad peaks and the easternmost glaciers in China. You will come across a number of colourful ponds of different shapes and sizes which are scattered along the valley. These are strewn with gold colored limestone deposit giving a shimmering golden hue to water. It is because of this that the valley got its name.

Once you enter the scenic area, you will come across of a group of exquisite clear ponds which will immediately catch your attention. During spring, the luxuriant trees, blooming flowers, butterflies and birdsong enhance their glamour even more. You can see the reflection of trees, mountains, clouds and sky from the ponds which are a real feast for the eyes. There are numerous attractions along the valley which include a glowing waterfall, Huanglong cave, and the Huanglong Temple. There are three sitting figures of Lord Buddha in the Huanglong Cave figures whose bodies are encrusted with calc-sinter crystals.

The Muni Valley holds the primary area of the virgin forest in this area. The valley comprises of the Erdao Lake and Zhaga Waterfall which happens to be the largest calcified waterfall in China. The Erdao Lake is situated on the northern part of the Muni Valley and is the largest in the area. Numerous underground limestone caves surround the lake which connects it to other lakes in the area. Another beautiful spot in the area is the Zhaga Watefall which stretches about 5 kms where water flows around tress and the trees grow in water. This scenic spot boasts of a number of attractions.

Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area is indeed one of the most beautiful spots on earth for its magical landscape of limestone formations.
