Chengdu is the capital city of Tian Fu Zhi Guo. It lies to the west of the Sichuan
Basin and in the center of Chengdu Plain. Chengdu is known for its politics, commerce
and military. The city has a number of popular destinations which are discussed
below.
Huanglongxi Ancient Town is a popular destination in Chengdu which is 1700
years old and lies about 50 km from the city. Visitors who come in to explore
this beautiful town will be amazed by the ancient cobbled streets, temples,
and wharves and houses along its curving alleys. Most of these shops have turned
into shops selling souvenirs of Huanglongxi souvenirs. The beautiful town of
Huanglongxi is named after the Huanglong River which flows through it. You could
take a boat ride or dine at one of the many river view restaurants. The boat
ride is as romantic as the one in Venice or Paris.
Sanxingdui is another popular destination and is one of the most important
ancient remains in the world for its vast size is located in the city of Guanghan,
about 40km from Chengdu in Sichuan Province. Sanxingdui is also very popular
for its enriched cultural contents which have been preserved for long periods
of time.
Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area is often referred to as the 'World
Wonder' and 'Fairy Land on Earth'. The area is known for its beautiful lakes,
snow clad mountains, valleys and virgin forests. Huanglong Scenic and Historic
Interest Area were included in the UNESCO world heritage list in 1992.
Another popular destination in Chengdu is Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area which is often
referred to as one of the wonderlands on earth. According to popular belief,
no other place boasts of such magnificent scenery and fables of dreamlike eloquence
or natural purities like a fairyland such as the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area.
