Sightseeing in Chengdu
China - Xian - Beijing - Guangzhou - Chengdu - Dalian - Shenzhen - Shanghai - Hangzhou
The city of Chengdu is one of the few remaining cities which have a really authentic tea house or Chadian culture. Tea houses are extremely popular throughout China, but the ones in Chengdu are especially very well known for its distinct and unique atmosphere it offers. The teahouses were traditional working clubs for me where local men used to meet to conduct business transactions and deals. They would also gather at these teahouses to listen to storyteller or the singers.
The Thatched Cottage of Du Fu in Chengdu is a popular sightseeing destination which was the home of Fu, very famous poet, lived in the Tang Dynasty more than a thousand years ago. Du Fu was born in Gongyi City and fled to Chengdu in 759 in order to get away from the An-Shi Rebellion which had broken out in 758. The Thatched Cottage was built beside the Flower Bathing Brook in 760 with the help of friends on the western outskirts of the city. Du Fu stayed in this cottage for four years and during this time had composed more than 240 poems which are considered to be precious national treasures.
Dujiangyan Irrigation Project is the oldest and only surviving no dam irrigation
system in the world and another popular sightseeing option. The project was
formulated by Li Bing, an official of Sichuan Province at that point of time
and his son. The main purpose of this project was to control flooding in the
area. Dujiangyan boasts of a scenic place called the Anlan Cable Bridge. This
magnificent bridge crosses the Minjiang River above Yuzui and the construction
of the bridge originally commenced before the Song Dynasty.
