With China rapidly becoming modernized, cities are mushrooming everywhere. Ecology
becomes the first victim of modernization. This obviously results in rare species
of flora and fauna being lost. To reverse this trend Wildlife & National Parks
in Chengdu offers sanctuary to species like giant panda, snub-nosed monkey and
the like.
Longchi National Forest Park is located 70 kilometers away from Chengdu city.
Offering a safe heaven to more than 3000 species of plants and over 350 species
of animals, the park is called "gene bank of wild animals and plants".
This park is famous for giant panda and snub nosed monkey. Found in very few
parks in China, Longchi National Forest Park is contributing a great deal to
stop this extremely rare species from being extinct. With gurgling streams and
dense lush green vegetation, the park is a must visit.
Pandas breed very slowly and rarely in artificial conditions. Notwithstanding
that, the Panda Breeding and Research Center is doing a great job and helping
these creatures to multiply. Located on Futou Hill, this facility remains open
for tourists from 7:30 am to 6 pm. The entry fee is 30 Chinese Yuan. The research
centre is a wonderful place to know about this magnificent species.
Covering a huge area of 200,000 hectares; Wolong Panda Reserve is the earliest
and most reputed panda reserve in China. Founded with assistance from World
Wildlife Fund, the reserve which was opened in 1980 has over 150 pandas. This
place offers a rare opportunity to scientists who want to study about the genetic
configuration and social hierarchy of this extremely shy species. The reserve
is so famous that more than 100,000 people from all corners of the world come
here to take photographs and study pandas. Endangered red panda, golden monkey
and white lipped dear are among other attraction in this panda reserve.
