Music and Dance in China

The music culture of China came into existence during the Zhou Dynasty in 1122
BC - 256 BC. The music of China gained its existence subjected to the from the
area of Central Asia. The music played in China are accompanied with solo instruments
or with a bowed stringed instruments cymbals, flutes, gongs, and drums. The
musical instrument that is famous of this area are the Bamboo pipes and qin
and made out of materials based on skin, bamboo, wood, silk, gourd, metal and
stone. Bowed strings, woodwinds, plucked strings and percussion are the basic
instrument that constitutes the Chinese orchestra.
Chinese vocal music is sung in solo with a nonresonant voice where most of the music being melodic in nature. The vocal songs are expressed in rhythmic music. One would come across various types of music starting from heavy metal music to Han Music, instrumental music to folk music, and from operas to vocal music. As far as dance in China is concerned it has its own significant type of structure, composition and grace. The Chinese dance was integrated with elements taken from cities like China, Korea, Sinkiang, India, Persia, and Central Asia. With the existence of several ethnic groups the region celebrates folk dances relating to each specific groups. The Miao, even called as Hmong, settled along the southwestern China came up with a new collective dance form, which was basically a competitive dance. A handholding line dance that was practiced by Taiwan residents was celebrated as a basic harvest ceremony. Apart from this the area is famous for its well-preserved folk dance.
