Lushun boasts of turbulent past, in the year 1841 Lushun was captured by the Japanese army and resulted in massive death and destruction in the area. Then again in 1904, Lushun unwillingly became a battlefield of the Russo-Japanese War. This war was followed by the surrender of Russian forces and beginning of the era of Japanese rule that continued for the next forty years. Peace returned to the region in the year 1945, when Lushun again became a part of its motherland, China.
Because of its rich historical legacy, the entire place has been transformed into an open air museum that bears testimony to the historical and cultural legacy of the region. Today it has become a National Key Scenic Spot boasting of a National Nature Protection Area, and a National Forest Park. Lushun is one of the top tourist destinations of Dalian and people from all over the world visit the place to have an idea about the culture and history of the place.
