Gone are the days when transportation used to be a major problem. In earlier days,
to get around different parts of a country would take several days. But with rapid
improvement in science and technology, those laid back days are just a memory
of the past. Jet planes now transport people half way around the world in just
a matter of hours. It therefore becomes imperative to make available faster and
easy modes of transport to get around inside a modern city. Connected by bus,
tram and taxi service; transportation network in Dalian is very well developed.
Buses are one of the most convenient transportation modes in Dalian. The bus
service is very frequent and the system runs without any hitch. The service
is so frequent that you would at most wait only 10-15 minutes to board a bus.
Despite the service being good enough, the buses get very crowded during peak
times. Apart from that, the buses do not have any air conditioning or heating
systems; so you may not experience a comfortable bus ride. The main tourist
sightseeing places in Dalian are distributed along route no 2, route no 4, 13
and 22. If you are a tourist and want to journey comfortably by bus, hop on
to any of the three air-conditioned tourist buses. These buses cover Tiger Beach,
Labor Park and all the squares.
Slow paced trams may seem to be a misfit in the fast modern cities. However
trams have not lost their importance and are often the best way to get around
a city. Tram service in Dalian is efficient. Running along high sloped streets,
the trams are reasonably fast. If you are a native of San Francisco, trams will
surely make you feel at home. Generally average speed trams cost around 1 Yuan
but if you are in a hurry, you can avail faster trams at 2 Yuan.
Taxi service as a means of transportation in Dalian is easily available. The
drivers are friendly but very few know English. Therefore, it is advisable to
know Chinese destination names before you board one.
Rail service too is available in Dalian for journeying across urban and sub
urban locations.
