Among all the gardens in the city of Guangzhou, the one which is well known for its collection of plants and research facilities is the South China Botanical Garden. The garden is located in the northeastern suburbs of Guangzhou at Longdong and is recorded as one of the world’s largest of Botanical Gardens.

Features of South China Botanical Garden

- The Garden has a record number of 5000 tropical and sub tropical plants both consisting of the local variety and some imported from abroad. The species consists of palm, orchids, bamboo and various shade plants.

- The plants in the Garden flourish well due to the climatic conditions, the terrain, rainfall and soil.

- Since its inception in 1956, the garden has reared up rare species of plants in 30 well maintained gardens. The Magnolia Garden and the Ginger Garden are the Botanical Gardens prized possessions and are one of their kinds in the whole world in terms of species and area.

- According to a special project the garden three ecological key gardens which will preserve the endangered species. Along with it are the addition of a conservation center and a center to carry out scientific researches. Large scale renovation process of existing gardens is undertaken. The plants with medicinal value and commercial utility are being conserved carefully.

- The Botanical Garden aids the research and study of the botanists and students alike with its extensive plant population and also is one of the greatest tourist attractions in Guangzhou.
