Hengdang Islands in Guangzhou

Mt.Lianhuashan, located at the mouth of the Pearl River and about 20 km Southeast of Shiqiao is one of the four famous mountains in Guangdong. Flower Pagoda built in the Ming Dynasty stands erectly on the top of the Mt.Lianhuashan.The bronze statue of Guanyin, Chinese Goddess of Mercy, in standing position overlooking the sea is 40.88 meters high and it is acknowledged as the highest statue gilded with gold in the whole world and this exquisitely beautiful site is elected as one of the eight most fantastic spots in Guangzhou Municipality

Other destinations associated with the Opium War are the Upper and Lower Hengdang (Ledge) Islands in the southeast of Panyu. To reach the beautiful Upper & Lower Hengdang (Ledge) Islands, one can avail the highway to Nansha from Shiqiao and then change to a boat at the Nansha Ferry Pier. The canons here once guarded the strategic military post at Humen. Together with Weiyuan Fort across the river, they both controlled the mouth of the Pearl, defending Guangzhou.
