Honam Island in Guangzhou

As portrayed in the old map of Guangzhou, Honam Island is located to the south of central Guangzhou, across the Pearl River. Honam Island has sound transport facilities and this island can be easily reached by crossing the People's Bridge from Shamian Dao or by taking the metro or bus.

History depicts that Honam Island was considered as an important part of Guangzhou from mid nineteenth century onwards. At that time west had already appreciating the excellent tea of china and the demand for Chinese tea was at its full pace in the western market and as a result of this vast warehouses were built in Honam Island along the shoreline of the Pearl River.

The entire Picturesque island of Honam is marked by long lines of simple gray brick houses opening into narrow lanes, paved with granite slabs worn smooth over the century. A major attraction in Honam Island in Guangzhou is a large Buddhist monastery with an adjoining park.
