General Rules to be followed:
- Be patient while reserving tickets and hotel rooms. Don’t get worried if things don’t go your way.
- Try to exercise control in difficult situations. A screaming or intimidating tone might be adverse.
- You can do well by learning a few Chinese words Xiè xiè ("Thank you," pronounced shee-yeh shee-yeh), and Ní hao (nee how), or "Hello."
- You should always smile back or reciprocate amiably when stared at.
- Avoid playing with chopsticks.
- Bowing the head and pressing the hands together is a symbol of deep gratitude.
- Avoid indulging in outward displays of affection.
- You should think twice before showing any disliking towards anything offensive.
- The people of Guangzhou are warm and friendly and their behavior is always characterized by a benign reciprocity.
- Shaking hands in public is the best way of greeting each other.
