Shanghai is one of the important cities of the Peoples Republic of China. The city is rich in art and culture. China has a lot of history attached to it which can be traced back to more than 6000 years. A number of festivals are celebrated in Shanghai and the Shanghai Asian Music Festival is an important event in the Shanghai Calendar. Shanghai Asian Music Festival is held for a week. Pop singers from various countries across the world such as China, Denmark, the Republic of Korea, and other countries perform at the festival. More than 300 musicians from 25 Asian countries take part in the festival each year. Shanghai Asian Music Festival was first launched in 1991 and was designed to discover new talented singers to boost the music market in Asia. A number of competitions and seminars are organized during the week long Music Festival. A number of competitions are organized such as the “Asian fresh singer's competition”, "youth singing group competition" and the "Asian music development seminar in the Internet era." A major event of the music festival is the anti-piracy campaign which takes place during the festival. As a part of the campaign, concerts featuring renowned singers from China and abroad perform boost the pop industry's anti-pirating campaign.
