Shanghai International Marathon

Shanghai International Marathon is the annual running event that takes place in the city of Shanghai every year. Participants from all over the world come to Shanghai for the race. The Marathon is held on the second Sunday of November every year.

Shanghai International Marathon is considered to be the city's premier road race. The marathon is open to all. Thousands of runners compete for the event and there is participation from all quarters. It is estimated that over 15000 runners took part in the event every year. Locals turn out at the marathon in large numbers and according to them event is well planned.

The course for the Shanghai International Marathon is the same as it was a decade back with the runners starting off at the Bund and heading toward suburban Minhang District for the two longer stints. The fun run will ends at the Jing'an Park.

The prize money at the Shanghai International Marathon has been increasing with each possible year. The winners of the men's and women's full marathons take home about 48,000 yuan (US$5,925) in prize money. The marathon has a number of pro athletes taking part but an overwhelming majority of the participants are amateurs.
