Fuxing Park Shanghai

China - Xian - Beijing - Guangzhou - Chengdu - Dalian - Shenzhen - Shanghai - Hangzhou

The city of Shanghai is an important cosmopolitan city in the Peoples Republic of China. China has a rich history and tradition. You could get a feel of the history and culture of this bustling cosmopolitan city through the numerous historical monuments, parks and gardens that are located in different areas of the city. The Fuxing Park in Shanghai is one such Park.

Fuxing Park occupies a significant place in the history of Shanghai. The park was originally named after Gujiazhai Park. The park was opened by the local Gu family who opened the par over 100 years ago. The park was renamed the French park after it was bought by the French for the purpose of stationing armies in 1900.

After the Second World War broke out, the French left the city and the administration of the French Concession was taken over by the Japanese Government. The name of the park was changed yet again and was called Daxing Park henceforth. After the Chinese won the anti-Japanese war in 1945, the name of the park was finally changed to the one it still holds today-Fuxing Park.

Fuxing Park is the only French style park in Shanghai. The park is well designed and there are a number of trees that provide shelter to residents from the sun during the summers. The park is thus referred to as "carpet garden". A slightly surreal sculpture of Marx and Engels can be found in the park which was completed on their ninetieth death anniversary.

The Park also features a Bar and Restaurant known as Park 97. You could come here after your stroll around the park for some tapas and or for a drink. The park is open daily from 6AM to 6PM.
