The city of Shanghai is a bustling cosmopolitan city in the Peoples Republic of China. The city has a rich heritage and culture. You could get a feel of the history and culture of Shanghai once you are in the city. Shanghai boasts of a number of important historical monuments, parks and gardens that are located in different areas of the city.

Shanghai boasts of a number of parks and gardens that have been constructed decades back. Yuyuan Gardens for example was built the 16th century when Zhang Nanyang, an architect was asked to construct the garden by the Pan family of the Ming court. The gardens are built in true traditional Chinese style and feature numerous rock and tree areas. The walls are dragon lined. The Fuxing Park occupies a significant place in the history of Shanghai. The park was originally named after Gujiazhai Park. The park was opened by the local Gu family who opened the par over 100 years ago. The park was renamed the French park after it was bought by the French for the purpose of stationing armies in 1900.
