Housed in a heritage building, the new Shanghai Art Museum is a gold mine of paintings and sculptures. Open on all 7 days a week from 9 o' clock in the morning to 5 o' clock in the evening. This museum however restricts entry from 4 o' clock onwards. This place is frequented by hundreds of visitors every day.

Spanned across 5 spacious floors, the new Shanghai Art Museum boasts of a whopping 12 exhibition halls. These exhibition halls are stacked with thousands of invaluable traditional as well as modern paintings by the Chinese artists. Other fine arts items such as bronze and earthen sculptures are also on display.

The Shanghai Art Museum however not only showcases paintings, temporary art shows are organized regularly. You too can take part in sketching and paintings for a negligible fee of 150 to 200 Yuan. Art lectures are often organized. The lecture hall, with special permission from the authorities, can be hired for functions.

If you want a replica of the famous paintings or a memento of the museum itself, then head for the gift shop on the first floor. The admission fee for adults is 20 Yuan. Tickets for students are priced at 16 Yuan per head. You can also avail a confessional rate of 16 Yuan per person but this concession is applicable only to a group of 20 people or more.
