Funded and established by Shanghai Municipal Government, the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum adheres to the government's vision of revitalizing the nation through science and education.

Boasting of an IMAX theatre, the museum features 7 exhibition areas, which are accessible to the general public. Made at a huge expense of 1.75 billion RMB, the museum is sprawled across a huge 68000 square meter area. This museum features exhibitions like AV Paradise, Wide Spectrum of Life, Children's Technoland, Earth's Crust Exploration, Light of Wisdom, Cradle of Designers and a 4-D Theatre.

The AV Paradise exhibits plane steering simulation. Information technology and video and film technologies are interestingly explained through interactive programs. The most interesting area is however the robot theatre. The visitors can also experience the thrill of a virtual dialogue with a famous local TV host.

Complex topics like the human genetic build-ups, biodiversity are clearly explained in the Wide Spectrum of Life section.

There is lack of knowledge about how magma builds up in earth's crust. The Earth's Crust exploration section aims to render people with this knowledge through computer simulation.

Knowledge imparted in books about the laws of physics and complex mathematical equation is not enough. The Lights of Wisdom section in the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum complements the learning through interactive models.
