Shanghai, the eighth largest city of the world is also the largest city in China. The city is spread along the center of China's coastline along the East China Sea. The city of Shanghai is spread over a sprawling landmass of 6000 square kilometers. The geographical co-ordinates of Shanghai are 31°13'N and 121°28'E. The city is faced towards the East China Sea, which is a part of the Pacific Ocean. Huangpu River runs through Shanghai bisecting the city. The geography of Shanghai is consisted of one county and eighteen districts.

The average temperature of Shanghai hovers at around 15.7 degrees Celsius. The city has a humid subtropical climate, which is heavily influenced by the monsoons. Temperature varies widely from -10 degrees Celsius to 41 degrees Celsius.

The city experiences all the four seasons. Usually, spring arrives in March, summer in June, autumn starts in September and winter in December. The months of July and August are the hottest, recording an average high of 32 degrees. Summers experience torrential rain quite frequently. In spite of being hot and humid, summer is the peak season for tourism. The most beautiful season in Shanghai is the spring, though it receives frequent spells of rain, and the temperature also varies.

Often during a year, the city experiences a few spells of typhoons. The cyclone inflicts a considerable amount of damage to the city.
