Donghai Bridge Shanghai

China - Xian - Beijing - Guangzhou - Chengdu - Dalian - Shenzhen - Shanghai - Hangzhou

Donghai Bridge, Shanghai is the latest addition to the long list of bridges in the city. The bridge is still under construction and most probably the construction of the bridge will end by 2010. The bridge covers a distance 32.5-kilometre over the Hangzhou Bay and is the first deep sea bridge of China. The construction of the bridge began in 2002 in Luchao Harbour, which is located on the the coast of Nanhui District. The bridge has designed in the shape of an “S” so as to ensure driving safety. The bridge has been planned to feature at least six lanes for traffic and it has been planned that car and other vehicles will be moving at a speed of 80 kilometers an hour.

The Donghai Bridge, when completed will be boon for the traffic situation in Shanghai. It will make transportation between Shanghai and the newly opened Yangshan port convenient and will save time while traveling between Shanghai and Yangshan port.

Most of the major constructions of the bridge was completed within the first three years and although the progress of the bridge was hampered by the occurrence of typhoons, it is expected that the bridge can be completed within 2010. Once the bridge is complete, the bridge will be one of the major attractions of Shanghai and will be able to reduce the pressure of traffic in the city.
