China - Xian - Beijing - Guangzhou - Chengdu - Dalian - Shenzhen - Shanghai - Hangzhou

Jing'an Temple, Shanghai is one of the popular tourist destinations of the city and is also one of the significant religious landmarks of the city. The temple is situated on West Nanjing Road, in Jing An District. It is believed that the temple was built in the tenth year of Chiwu (247 BC) in the Three Kingdoms. Later on, in the 9th year of South Song Emperor's Jiading Era (1216 BC), the temple was shifted to its present location. The history of the temple is tumultuous; the temple was restored many a times and in the TaiPingTianGuo, the temple was destroyed. Only the Dafou Hall survived the destruction and many years later in 1921, the Hall of the Three Saints was added to that hall and after several years of restoration it took its present shape. In 1999 the temple underwent complete renovation, which was aimed to make the temple more charming and beautiful.

The temple comprises of the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Hall of the Three Saints, the Hall of Virtuous Works and the Abbot's Chambers. Every year five Zhenyanzong forums are held in the Abbot's Chambers. The temple also includes the memorial hall of Master Dadechisong of the Zhenyanzong and it is home to significant historic relics.

Jing'an Temple is open on all days of the week from 8 am to 5 pm and on the Buddhist holidays the temple opens at 5am. The admission charge for entering the temple is 10 yuan. Every year, on April 8th of lunar calendar, a three day feast temple is celebrated in the temple and the best time to visit the temple is during this feast .
