The year draws towards its end, the ambience of late autumn sets into the air in Shenzhen and the leaves turn yellow and float from the branches of trees. However, the best thing is, nature is still beautiful. This is the season for the chrysanthemums to blossom in full bloom and rekindle warmth. Renowned for its 20 chrysanthemum exhibitions since 1984, Donghu Park in Shenzhen’s Luohu District is the place where visitors find themselves. The first feature of animal sculptures is where chrysanthemums are formed in various shapes of peacocks, dragons, elephants and butterflies. They are decked in bright colors against the lush grass background in mixed colors of red, yellow, purple and white. Along both sides of the entrance, the flowers are placed in pots to indicate the direction of the exhibition venue – that is, to the land beside the fishing pool. A striking feature of the demonstration is the presence of the 24 Chinese solar periods, the names of which are written in 24 Chinese drums to form a flower circle. The Donghu Park which overlooks the Shenzhen Reservoir was renovated in the year 2002 and boasts vastly improved views and facilities. On the west side is the Donghu Hotel where you can spend a relaxing afternoon after sipping coffee.
