The Giant Panda Sanctuaries in China is a large natural reserve established to protect and propagate the endangered Giant Pandas. Located in the Sichuan Province in China, the full name of the sanctuaries is "Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries". The sanctuaries encompass some nine park-reserves housing these timid animals, and sprawl across the Qionglai mountain and Jiajin mountain. The Giant Panda Sanctuaries in China is also the largest existing natural habitat and captive breeding ground for Pandas. The Giant Pandas are large bears; but are comparatively timid in nature. They mainly rely on the bamboo shoots for food.
The Giant Panda Sanctuaries in China covers a ground area of 9,510 Sq Km, and are positioned midway between the Dadu and the Minjiang Rivers. Aside of being a reserve for Pandas, the Giant Panda Sanctuaries in China also plays host to numerous other endangered species like the Red Panda and two varieties of Leopards: the Clouded Leopard and the Snow Leopard. Aside of these, there are several species of avian fauna and over 6,000 species of plant-life within the sanctuaries. Awarded the status of a World heritage site, the Giant Panda Sanctuaries in China, houses over 30% of the Panda population that is to be found around the world. That amounts to some 1,600 Giant Pandas.
