Of the many mountains that trace the landscape of the country, the Mt. Huangshan
in China is one of the most important. Referred to as Mt. Huangshan or "Huang
Shan", the mountain is located to the east of the country in the Anhui Province
and forms a part of the complete Wu Yue Range. In fact, the range is known by
different names in the different Provinces in which it falls. The name "Huangshan"
translates in Chinese as 'Yellow Mountain'. The Mt. Huangshan in China, however,
was not always known by this name. Until the 747 AD, the Mt. Huangshan in China
was called "Mt. Yishan". It was rechristened after the legendary medicine
maker "Huang Di", who is said to be the maker of magic immortality pills.
Such is the beauty of the Mt. Huangshan in China, that it has achieved the
status of a national landmark and a symbol of identity for the country. Also,
the Mt. Huangshan in China is also a UNESCO World Heritage. Aside of being a
beautiful peak of scenic beauty, it is also a treasure house of several rare
and exotic flora and faun varieties. Almost 154 Sq Km of the mountain falls
under the World heritage zone. Formed almost 100 million years ago, the tallest
peak on the mountain is the Lian Hua Feng peak that rises to 1,864 meters above
sea level. The entire Mt. Huangshan in China was formed out of glacial activities.
The spectacular Mt. Huangshan in China is often seen as a mountain veiled in
mist and cloud.
