Xian, the capital of Shaanxi Province features a number of tourist spots and attractions. The Tang Dynasty Palace, Xian is one such famous tourist site in Xian.
Chang'an or the modern-day Xian was the capital city of the Tang Dynasty. The Emperor's Palace was located in Chang'an. The stupendous walls with the gates are simply marvelous. The main entrance was meant purely for the Emperor. The town consisted of eight important streets. There was an amazing network of drainage systems. The town was classified into two major divisions. The inner part included the northern areas along with the imperial palace, and the southern part with the government buildings. The outer part of the town covering the east, south and west of the inner part, was inhabited by the common people. The streets were served with several markets and shops.
The Tang Dynasty Palace, Xian reflected the Golden era of Xian. Chinese art, culture and literature were in full bloom during this period. The magnolia blossoms of Yulan were considered as signs of purity in the Tang Dynasty. They were thus planted in the premises of the Emperor's palace. Buddhism started prospering during the rule of the Tang Dynasty. However later on it gradually began losing its importance.
The Huaqing Palace located about twenty miles east of the city of Xian at the foot of Lishan Mountain, is a Tang Dynasty Palace, Xian . This palace used to organize various musical performances and other cultural programmes reflecting the art and taste of the Tang Dynasty. It also hosted rich and lavish banquets for the eminent and powerful people from the elegant and elite society. The beautiful artworks and gorgeous carvings inside the palace are fine examples of Tang art, sculpture and calligraphy.
Various other interesting places and tourist sites in Xian worth visiting are, Green Dragon Temple, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Small Wild Goose Pagoda, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Xi'an City Wall, Daxingshan Temple, Straw Hut Temple, Peasant Paintings and Farmer's Caves.
