The city of Aswan is not only renowned across the world for its astounding beauty and foliage of tropical fruit trees , instead the city is also a hub of art enthusiasts. The International Symposium of Sculpture is a prominent instance which signifies Aswan to be a city of art admirers.

The concept of this event is very unique. The symposium is held annually where budding sculptors along with pioneers get along with each other in search of innovative creations. The festival gives a wide platform to the budding artistes as they are offered to showcase their work of art in front of a global crowd.

On the other hand the pioneer sculptors display their artistic formations to the common audience and also to the rising artists who can draw inspiration, learn techniques and receive invaluable suggestions from their predecessors.

The chief objective to hold this festival was to retrieve the art of sculpting in stone. The organizers thought that the festival will act as a crossing point for several artists where they can exchange their opinions and strive to carry on this rich legacy of stone sculpting forward.

All the creations that are formed by the artists of the symposium are then put up on a display at the open air museum which sits a top a small hill and overlooks the picturesque Lake Nasser.

The festival has been taking place for last seven years and statistics show that about sixty four sculptors from twenty five countries have taken part in it. The symposium has been very productive because till now eighty six superb work of art has emerged from it. The quality of work is tremendous and some of the sculptures adorn the Alexandria Library and other public sites of Aswan.
