History
The famous island was a gift to Lord Kitchener for his dedicated services in the Sudan campaigns. It was the patient and the genuine effort of Kitchener that he quickly managed to transform the island almost akin to a heaven for any nature lover. The Kitchener’s Island of Aswan is now a paradise that houses an exotic range of various plants and trees.
The place is at present hosts a biological research center that attracts a lot of visitors. See and feel blessed to part of this beautiful world that offers so many exotic species of plants and trees. The Kitchener’s Island of Aswan also houses an examining center for different food and cash crops.
The famous Botanical Garden that houses an excellent collection of plants was imported by Kitchener from far places. In addition to the native trees you can see a lot many trees that usually grow in different climate. See the figs, the dates and the palm. Rest in the shades of the diversified fruit trees that you can see here. Walk though the broad paths that are decorated with beautiful flower plants on its both sides. Catch a glimpse of the exotic birds and listen to their soothing tunes.
The Kitchener’s Island is now famous as the Plantation islands, Plant Islands or Geziret an- Nabatat Islands simply.
Location
The Kitchener’s Island of Aswan is one of the two major islands on Nile. The other being the larger Elephantine Islands.
Getting There
The smaller Kitchener’s Island of Aswan can be accessed through local ferries and motorboats. The Kitchener’s Island can be reached by felucca that is the traditional vessel that takes you across the Nile River.
