Roman built edifices and semi finished giant remnants covered in sand dunes.
On the west bank, the cliffs carry the tomb of a local saint and below them
are the tombs of the pharaonic officials and members.
Mohammed Shah Aga Khan has his tomb up the river; if you go up the road it
then leads to the Coptic monastery of St Simeon, which was built in the sixth
century in honor of Amba Hadra, local saint. Aswan is the Tourist hub of the
south of the Egypt with more of an African feel about it. In the state of the
art Hotels you would get the nubile dancers dancing to the Nubian music that
would unveil some culture of the past. Something you are bound not to forget
that easily. Explore the city of Aswan to find the Temple of the Philae,
one of the best attractions of the city.
To the south of the city you would come to the temple of the Philae, which marks the south end of the city. The temple started at the onset of the reign of the Ptolemy II and continued till the end of the Roman emperors ruled. The temple at Philae was nearly lost under water when the high Aswan dam was built in the 1960s. The temple was rescued by a joint collaboration between the Egyptian government and UNESCO. The temple is made in the name of Goddess Isis and is set in sculptured landscapes, which incorporates the Vestibule of the Nectanebos, entrance to the temple. Visit the Sound and Light Show, an enchanting experience as floodlit buildings are silhouetted against the volcanic rocks and water surrounding them recreates history.
