The Unfinished Obelisk was mainly intended as a companion to the Lateran Obelisk which. Though originally at Karnak it is now presently in Rome. The stone weighing over 2.3 million pounds would have been the world’s largest piece of stone in the world. But as a crack developed in the stone it was abandoned. If the granite would not have developed a crack then it would have been the obelisk would have the biggest with 40 meters height.
The Unfinished Obelisk that lies on the southern part of Aswan is attributed to Queen Hatshepsut’s. See the beautiful rock faces that show the imprint of ancient rock cutters.
The tools that were once used by the builders during the quarrying projects helped historians to gather information how the ancient stone cutters used to perform their work. The stone blocks were separated from the rocks by boring holes and driving wedges into theses. These wedges were then soaked in the water and then detached.
