According to Egypt health information, visitors over one year of age required a yellow fever vaccination certificate if they are coming from the infected areas. These countries are regarded by Egypt health authorities as yellow fever infected areas: all countries of mainland Africa south of the Sahara with the exception of Lesotho, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland and Zimbabwe; Sudan south of 15 N; Sao Tome e Principe. Also in the endemic zone are Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Panama, Peru, Surinam, Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela. Visitors without yellow fever certificate from these countries will be detained at the airport.

However a Cholera vaccination certificate is not a mandatory condition of entry in Egypt according to WHO guidelines issued in 1973. However precautions could be considered as cases of sporadic cholera came into light. Visitors are advised to take vaccination against typhoid and polio. According to health information in Egypt limited malaria risk may exist in the months of June to October.

Travel health information for Egypt

Avoid consumption of dairy products, as they are likely to be made of unboiled milk. Only eat well-cooked meat and fish products. Pork and Salad may carry increased risk so avoid them. Drinking water facilities outside main cities carries a higher risk.

Rabies is present so vaccination before arrival is considered. Filariasis and Bilharzia may occur in the Nile Delta and Nile Valley. Avoid swimming and paddling in fresh water. Take precautions against Hepatitis A and E and diphtheria. Vaccination against Hepatitis B is advised.

Public hospitals and chemists are open for visitors. Health insurance is strongly advised.
