Egypt has a flourishing Egyptian and Arabic language based film industry, which is based in Cairo. Cairo is the international venue of many famous film festivals, like the annual International Film Festival. The International Federation of Film Producers' Associations have rated this annual event as one of the 11 top- rating festivals in the world.

The whole of Arab nations has produced as many as 4000 short and feature length films in Arabic language since 1908 and most of these films are Egyptian. In the beginning, Egypt produced a limited number of silent films and later with the coming of sound, the industry became a major regional force. During 1940's and 50's, the film industry of Egypt saw the 'Golden Phase' of cinema in Egypt.

Some of the popular films being made in Egypt include Abdulla the Great, Ayam El-Sadat, Doaa al-Karawan, Halim, Al Haram, Malak al-Rahma, Mr. Karate, Rossassa Fel Qalb, Tharthara Fawq al Neel, Tito, Al-Yateematain, Yawm Said and so on.

Though the present atmosphere of entertainment taxes etc., have resulted in lowering the standards of modern Egyptian cinema, but it certainly has a deep impact on the Arabs all over.
