Hurghada is a city in Egypt and a tourist hot spot on the shores of the Red Sea.
Hurghada was formed in the early 20th century, and has expanded considerably
since the 1980s because of large inflows of investment from American, European
and Arabic corporates and tourists. The city has slowly established itself as
one of the leading beach resorts on the Red Sea and with reason. You will never
be bored in Hurghada as there are millions of ways to have fun in Hurghada.
The city offers a lot of scope for water sports and other related recreational
activities and is a virtual haven for sail boarders, yachtsmen, scuba divers
and snorklers.
Hurghada has a reputation as a town that knows how to party and with reason.
Its many nightclubs and bars seem to indicate that the city comes alive only
at night. Nearly every hotel has its own disco. Two of the most popular discos
in Hurghada are "Calypso" and "Papas Beach". Renowned for
its performances of belly dancing and programs on Arabic and Nubian folklore
is the "Alf Leila Wa Leila Club" which translates to "One thousand
and one nights" in Arabic. It is a big open-air area, with something to
suit every kind of taste.
One way to enjoy in Hurghada is to watch the mewlewi or dervish. The whirling
dervish is a ritual dancer who whirls around for 20 min. or more in a sort of
trance like dance. His incessant whirling and the fascinating music the dancer
creates a spell and it seems as if the very atmosphere is charged.
