Caleches make you realize the antiquity of Luxor. This almost outmoded form of transport are found in plenty in the city of Luxor. Caleches are basically the horse driven carriages plying through the city. Tourists especially from the west get attracted to such vehicle because of their ethnic look. They simply love to wander about from one place to the other within the city sitting on the nicely decorated caleches. Infact they are the maximum number of vehicles available on the city roads. Most of the city attractions like the Luxor temple and Luxor Museum can be visited by caleche. The prices of hiring a caleche is cheaper than that of any modern vehicle. The carriaes are very nicely decorated with clored ribbons and jazzy stuff. Children love to take a ride on it. At times the driver may charge some unaffordable price for it, don't worry , go for a bargain and you will emerge victorious because one has to keep in mind that they are totally dependant on the tourists of the city. So their need is more than yours. In the summers the caleches are found in plenty than usual. If you want to avoid the scorchy sunrays of Luxor go for shopping and the nearby tourist attractions riding on one of them. The Caleches are also known as Hantoor in some parts of Egypt. But in Luxor its famous as caleches.
