Located 81 miles south of Luxor, Aswan is Egypt's sunniest southern city and also the third largest city in Egypt. Known by the name of 'Suno' that means "The Market" during the Pharaonic period, Aswan is the largest mining area of iron and aluminum.

The beauty of Nile is at its best in Aswan region as it flows from through the amber desert and granite rock region. Graced with the beautiful setting near the Nile River, the pace of life in Aswan is slow and relaxed in comparison to the life of Cairo city. Since the beginning of the 19th century, Aswan has been a popular winter resort of Egypt.

The spectacular sunsets, the smell of scents and spices that stimulate senses, historical buildings as the treasure of the city and the nature's beauty in the form of islands covered with the palm groves are some of the sightseeing attractions of the city.

With its striking natural beauty, Aswan is world famous for its High Dam. Aswan High Dam is located in the middle of the arid region of Egypt and is one of the largest embankment dams in the world.

Among the other attractions of Aswan city noticeable are the Elephantine Island, Aga Khan Mausoleum, Tomb of Nobles, Monastery of St Simeon and the Kalabsha Temple along with other sightseeing spots. The Nubian Museum of Aswan is the UNESCO Cultural Site.

Aswan city is linked with Luxor and Cairo by both the means of air and train. Aswan airport is located within the city. Aswan railway station is located within the city center and there are daily train services from Cairo and Luxor to Aswan. Aswan is not a big city like Cairo. It can be easily traceable by foot.
