Avignon is amongst the three most important cities in Provence. Southern France is just fascinating with lots of sightseeing attractions. In fact, starting with the Renaissance , Europe has produced some great pieces in all facets of arts, creations which are a marvel for posterity. This museum has paintings and sculptures from the 15 th century to 20 th century. The range of works is also very diverse. You will be a seeing archaeological to Beaux Arts , as well as decorative and ethnic art. The Calvet Museum was established in 1810 AD by Esprit Calvet . 17 th and 18 th century paintings give a fair idea of the prevalent art techniques in water color or oil. There is a collection of 14 th century and 15 th century wrought iron works. Some of the museums are housed in ancient buildings and ancient streets. The antiquity and charm of these places will bowl you. For a very elegant street, you must visit Rue Joseph Vernet which is adjacent to Calvet and Requien Museum .
