Musee d'Art Contemporain (Contemporary Art Museum) is very unique and has more than 350 exhibits of contemporary art. The Collection Lambert en Avignon , housed in the Musee d'Art Contemporain , is a unique ensemble of more than 350 contemporary artworks. This has been the result of one person for 20 years, Yvon Lambert . When he decided to install his collection of contemporary art in Hotel de Caumont, he had no idea that Joseph de Seytres , seigneur de Verquieres en Provence and marquis of Caumont was himself a famous collector. He was also an erudite archeologist and bibliophile, who was easy in French, Italian and Latin. His correspondence with distinguished figures throughout Europe is conserved in the Bibliotheque d'Avignon . He was born in the papal city in 1688 AD and he possessed a garden that was all the way from Saint-Louis hospice on Rue Violette (formerly Rue des Vieilles-Etudes) and had sixty plane trees and forty-five orange trees, planted by him. The collection here is a unique testimony of the great art movements of modern times: minimal art, conceptual art, land art from the 1960s to 1970s; painting from the 1980s; photography and video from the 1990s. The collection contains a most consistent collection of works by leading artists, including Cy Twombly, Sol LeWitt, Donald Judd, Niele Toroni, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Anselm Kiefer, Christian Boltansky, Nan Goldin and Douglas Gordon. By all accounts, the Yvon Lambert collection is very unusual and exemplary.
