La Foundation Angladon Dubrujeaud Avignon

France - Avignon - Paris

La Foundation Angladon-Dubrujeaud, Avignon houses some of the rare exhibits in France. It has a limited but enjoyable collection of paintings and other art collectibles from Post-Impressionist era. It includes the works of Cezanne, van Gogh, Daumier, Degas and Picasso. They are on display in recreated art studios and furnishings from different periods. This amazing museum was opened to the public in 1996 AD. It is an entirely private foundation, that has been created by an artist couple, Jean and Paulette Angladon-Dubrujeaud . They both studied at Ecole des Beaux Arts d'Avignon and pursued a painting and print making career. They have donated their family legacy and home to the public. This legacy came from the Parisian couturier Jacques Doucet (1853 AD to 1929 AD), who was an extremely well known collector and supporter of fine arts. This prestigious Parisian collection of Jacques Doucet is in Hotel de Massilian at the heart of the city.

The Hotel de Massilian is named after the family that occupied it in the 18 th Century. The building is still maintained in a spic and span manner, the beautiful staircase and discrete decorations are exercises in sublimity. Architect Jean Peru in 1694 AD carried out some major work and the latest restoration has maintained the ambience of the place to the last tee. La Foundation Angladon-Dubrujeaud museum has works of art from 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The painter couple had decreed in their will, how the floors of the house should be divided and decorated to give the right exposure to the masterpieces. The museum has several ornate furniture too as well as objects d'art. The double buffet attributed to Sambin must be properly appreciated. The galleries present a number of excellent portraits paintings by Hubert Robert, Joseph Vernet, Sir Thomas Lawrence and a still life by Chardin. Some very rare object d'art are an outstanding terracotta Danseuse, and a Tang era Buddhist prayer wheel. On request, you can see the works of Boucher, Lancret, Meissonnier, Liotard, Greuze and others.
