A flea market has many names in different parts of the world. For example, a flea market is also called swap meet in America. But essentially in all flea markets vendors arrive to trade their goods or sell. Majority of flea markets in the countryside sell second hand goods. Better selections of newer but economical items can be found in more urban flea markets. The flea markets have a feel of their own and their spontaneous nature with vendor oriented open market structure, differentiate them from thrift stores. Bootleg movies, music and counterfeit goods are at times found in flea markets. Some flea markets have concerts and carnival-type events. One of the most reputed flea markets in Avignon is Place des Carmes (flower & flea market) . The goods found here are usually inexpensive but vary in quality. Tourists are found to shop here regularly. Why only this market, all Provençal markets are very colorful, with fresh tantalizing smells, this is true, for vegetable and fish markets. Local markets are a place for indulging in innocent past times, you can chat with the vendor or gain some idea about the local Provencal cuisine by seeing what is on sale. Markets consist of local farmers and other vendors who frequent all the markets, so if you meet one vendor at a market on Monday, you can bump in to him in another market on Wednesday. Flea markets' story is the same. Vendors eking out a living by selling goods in flea markets travel to other places as well. The flea market in Place des Carmes (flower & flea market), Avignon , is held every Saturday. Usually, the market starts early as in case of other flea markets, from eight in the morning to one in the afternoon. The flower market is held on Saturday and the flea market is held here on Sunday. Flowers are found here and you will be able to go through the various antique or old articles, they can include anything. Flea markets are a great place to bargain if you can.
